The art museum as given to our team at the start of the development phase consisted of six separate towers connected by a massive ground floor. The project had little material decided in the schematic phase, instead of using custom textures. As such our team was forced to figure out several different facade and structural systems to create the form, as well as match the texture of the building as best as possible. Structurally this meant devising a concrete slab system for the towers while using a steel system on the ground floor. Our solution for how to detail the facade, while recreating the texture of the original schematic renders,
was among other systems, a GFRC system of panels, with attached ceramic pixels. Structurally, we decided on using a bubble slab system, which through the use of recycled plastic spheres allows for a slab that uses less concrete.
