Central to this course was the phrase rustic untidiness. Used by Hernan, we were sent off to find what that meant to us, before formulating it into a proposal for architectural intervention on an untouched island in the Parana river near Rosaria, Argentina. Gathering from multiple concepts of rusticness, ranging from the homesteaders of the American West to the improvised barrios of Guernica, infrastructure was developed to aid the ritualized construction and destruction of shrines and grottos through the means of 3D-printed adobe. The result is a manmade hardscape made of ports to allow the plugging of the sanctuary as needed while leaving other ports dormant for gardening, grazing, or another program as sought fit by the community.
